Prevalence of Glaucoma

Glaucoma has been estimated to affect 0.5% - 1% of the general population and it is hereditary.

The prevalence increases with age, an average of 2% in those that are 40 years and above.

Glaucoma is more common among the following demographics:
  • Blacks.
  • People with a family history of the disease.
  • People suffering from Diabetes.
  • People suffering from hypertension.
